That statement was made just minutes before some 50 officers fanned out, primarily across Bogalusa and the eastern side of the parish, to round up 17 persons identified as being part of Derek Moss' drug organization.
Three nights later, five persons were busted for operation a meth lab in a house in the 1800 block of Avenue G.
Those arrests came on the heels of multiple drug arrests parishwide in June, the dismantling of meth labs at Pine and in Bogalusa and the interception of an international package of illicit drugs en route to a Bogalusa woman. And there was the arrest of three on drug related charges when an attempted murder suspect was captured in a middle class home on Military Road.
While there has long been cooperation touted among departments, it is easy to see officers from multiple jurisdictions when the busts come down and the Drug Task Force is involved.
One thing we all have to remember is that, according to our judicial system, these folks are all presumed to be innocent until proven guilty. For some, with their track record, it should be confirmed guilt.
While the law abiding among us would just as soon say lock 'em up and throw away the key, there are those bleeding hearts who worry more about the scum behind bars than those they victimize.
And television, the phone book and the internet are full of those who specialize in getting them out of jail and back on the street as quickly as they can pay the legal fees.
The best way to battle the problem is to speak up and speak out. If you suspect someone in your neighborhood is dealing, call law enforcement. You aren't meddling in someone else's business — you are protecting your own interests and your own family.
And to the men and women who wear the badges and arrest the bad guys ... thanks for all you do.
