Less than a week after wpnewsblog reported patrons of the Bogalusa Branch Library of the Washington Parish Library System were forced to endure high temperatures because the air conditioning system was inoperable, the air is once again cool.

It's not a permanent fix, but Parish Public Works Director Leo Lucchesi said two rented portable units provide 10 tons of cooling and seem to be working well.

"(Parish) President (Richard) Thomas and I went over to check and everyone seemed to be excited. The library was really busy.”

Lucchesi said a public notice seeking bids for the replacement of the system have been posted and work should get started before the weather cools this fall.

There are two trailered units in place, in addition to the small, portable units that had been scattered throughout the library in an effort to cool the facility.

Library Manager Emmett Guy, Jr. said it was not unusual for temperatures to reach from between 85 and 88 degrees, making it uncomfortable for patrons.

This is the second summer the library's cooling system has been inoperable.
